Overview

During my attachment at Ardhi House Trans-Nzoia, I worked within the Registry Index Map System (RIMS) team to digitize analogue cadastral maps into a structured GIS database. This involved scanning hardcopy plans, georeferencing them, and tracing parcel boundaries with precision.

Each parcel was attributed with title deed numbers, ownership data, and acreage figures, creating a spatially-enabled land records database that integrated with the national lands information system.

The work directly reduced manual search time for land officers and improved the accuracy of boundary disputes resolution in the county.

β—† Key highlights

  • β†’Digitized over 200 land parcels across 3 sub-county registries
  • β†’Georeferenced 45 legacy cadastral sheets to WGS84 datum
  • β†’Attributed parcels with title deed and ownership metadata
  • β†’Reduced parcel search time from 20 minutes to under 2 minutes

Challenges

Many original cadastral sheets were damaged or had unclear boundary lines, requiring cross-referencing with physical deed files and consultation with senior land officers.

Outcome & results

Completed attachment with commendation from the Trans-Nzoia County Lands Officer. Database integrated into the county RIMS system.
